Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Technician. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for performing advanced lab duties under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. Assists senior and supervisory technicians in all advanced procedures. Main work scope includes supporting preclinical studies focused on lung cancer using genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs) and other in vivo systems.
This position involves comprehensive animal model work, including mouse colony management, genotyping, induction of tumor models, drug dosing, and small‑animal MRI imaging. The technician will work closely with lab members to evaluate therapeutic responses, assist with data collection, and ensure high‑quality execution of experimental procedures.
Key responsibilities include maintaining and breeding GEMM colonies, performing tumor induction protocols (e.g., Cre or doxycycline-based systems), conducting non‑invasive imaging studies to monitor disease progression, and administering investigational compounds via appropriate dosing routes. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical skills in animal handling, attention to detail in experimental design and record keeping, and commitment to ensuring animal welfare and scientific rigor in all aspects of in vivo oncology research.

- Lab Duties – advanced lab duties, under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. Assists senior and supervisory technicians in all advanced procedures. May be expected to coordinate repair and preventive maintenance of lab equipment. Assists in experiments using established protocols and procedures, and records results of experiments.
- Assist in Developing Procedures – assists in implementing new procedures and protocols to support experiments. Participates actively in developing, recommending, and implementing new approved procedures, or modifications to existing protocols and procedures. Maintains and updates technical knowledge.
- Communication/Relationship with Others – cooperates, communicates and relates well to all levels of Medical Center. Listens carefully to others to respond appropriately, answers questions or obtains needed information, communicates ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner. Maintains confidentiality of all research information.
- Judgment/Decision‑Making – recognizes problems as they occur, and through the application of appropriate policy/procedure, determines and/or recommends the appropriate solution. Seeks guidance as necessary, asks appropriate questions when in doubt and utilizes reference sources/materials to ensure accuracy. Advises appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow‑up attention.
- Participates and performs other related duties as required.
- Bachelor's of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field with one year of experience.
- Advanced training beyond basic lab training accepted in lieu of experience as assessed by the hiring Principal Investigator.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Master of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field.
- Previous mouse/animal research experience.
- Additional clinic human sample processing or molecular biology experience.
- Solid understanding of mouse genetics and colony management principles.
- Familiarity with genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs) of cancer.
- Knowledge of tumor induction methods, such as Cre/loxP, doxycycline, or viral delivery systems.
- Understanding of in vivo pharmacology and drug delivery techniques (oral gavage, intraperitoneal, intravenous, subcutaneous).
- Understanding of oncology research concepts, especially preclinical lung cancer biology.
- Working knowledge of animal welfare regulations, IACUC protocols, and biosafety procedures.

Salary range: $55,650.00 – $55,650.00 annually (actual salary will vary based on experience, education, and hospital need).
