Position Information About Fordham

Reporting to the Associate Professor of Marketing in the Gabelli School of Business, the BRICS Student Research Assistant is an advanced undergraduate or graduate student who will support-the Power of Hyperlocal Procurement:Building Local Supply Pathways in the South Bronx, a two-year community-engaged research project examining how local small businesses can become stronger suppliers to Bronx institutions.
This project is in partnership with the Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation .(WHEDco).
This position provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in mixed-methods research, community-engaged scholarship, economic development, and the design of practical solutions that strengthen relationships between local entrepreneurs and institutional buyers. The position requires a minimum commitment of one academic year, with the possibility of continuing for the full two-year duration of the project.
Essential Functions- Assists with business landscape research, data collection, cleaning, and organization.
- Supports outreach to South Bronx small businesses and institutional partners.
- Helps administer surveys.
- Assists with interviews and focus groups.
- Participates in fieldwork, community meetings, and business engagement activities in the Bronx.
- Assists with qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
- Supports the preparation of research summaries, presentations, and project deliverables.

Education and Experience
Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at Fordham University.
Required Qualifications:Knowledge and Skills
- Bi-lingual – Fluent in both Spanish and English.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Demonstrate an interest in entrepreneurship, small-business development, empirical business research, and primary data collection.
- Comfort engaging with community members and business owners.
- Regular availability for in-person fieldwork in the Bronx.
