Fire Life Safety Director – Corporate Building Downtown, Manhattan

  • Position is:
    Full Time
  • Workdays available: flexible Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm
  • Work Shift Available:
    Afternoon/Evening
  • Pay Rate: $21.30 / hour
Responsibilities

The primary mission of the Fire Life Safety Director is to protect life and property through the implementation of the building's fire safety plan, including the management of the Fire Command Station and the supervision of the fire brigade, floor wardens, deputy floor wardens, and building evacuation supervisors. The successful candidate acts as a liaison to the NYC Fire Department during emergencies.

Skills and Competencies
  • Ensure that all life safety systems and related equipment are fully functional.
  • Ensure that all floors have fire safety teams including Fire Wardens, Deputy Fire Wardens, and Building Evacuation Team members.
  • Conduct fire alarm drills and maintain a written log of critiques to identify potential or actual weaknesses in response time or life safety systems and related equipment.
  • Provide clear direction, information and assistance to client visitors, guests, vendors and employees in a professional, pleasant and courteous fashion on a regular basis and during emergency situations.
  • Assist building security in the visual inspection of visitor/vendor/employee badges to verify authorized holders and prevent unauthorized access.
  • Maintain surveillance and reporting of suspicious persons and/or packages.
  • Perform CPR/AED and basic first aid if required.
Physical and Mental Functions
  • Stand or walk constantly (up to an entire shift) on various surfaces.
  • Climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally during shift
  • Bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform duties
  • Occasionally lift or carry up to 40 pounds
  • Run as needed
  • Continuous use of hands/arms for writing, reports, and administrative tasks
  • Constant use of eyes to observe and read, with the ability to view security monitors
  • Work in various environments including adverse outdoor conditions
  • Constant mental alertness and attention to detail
Qualifications/Requirements

Qualified applicants will meet the minimum requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; ability to use initiative and independent judgment
  • Ability to prepare written reports/logs; computer skills may be required
  • Ability to read and understand operating procedures and instructions
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state/local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment
  • Background investigation and post-offer/pre-employment drug/alcohol test
  • Maintain current active status of all required licenses while on duty
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing environments
  • Intermediate computer skills for wireless technology at client sites
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality
  • Neat and professional appearance
  • Ability to handle both common and crisis situations calmly and efficiently
  • Clear spoken English; ability to communicate effectively with public/co-workers
  • Ability to handle high-volume environments
