The Position

The Security Supervisor – Second Shift Lead is a full-time, 12-month leadership position responsible for overseeing and directing security operations during the school’s second shift. Working under the direction of the Director of Security, this role serves as the on-site leader for afternoon, evening, and weekend operations, ensuring continuity of command, operational excellence, and a safe environment for the entire Chapin community.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising security staff assigned to the second shift and ensuring the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, parents, visitors, and the building and overseeing security needs at school events.

This position requires professionalism, strong verbal and written communication skills, a customer-service-based approach, sound judgment, and demonstrated knowledge of security best practices in an educational environment.

The standard academic-year schedule is:

Tuesday through Friday, 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Saturday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

This role requires flexibility based on school needs, including special events, performances, athletic competitions, admissions events, and other community programs. Overtime hours and schedule adjustments will be required as needed.

During the summer months, when school is not in regular session, scheduling may be adjusted to reflect operational needs, construction projects, camps, or reduced campus activity.

The successful candidate will also be expected to work some holidays as operational needs require.

Responsibilities Include
  • Serve as the on-site leader for second shift security operations under the direction of the Director of Security.

  • Supervise and support staff assigned to afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts.

  • Ensure consistent enforcement of school safety protocols and procedures.

  • Patrol and monitor the building and grounds; respond immediately on foot to any location within the 12-story building.

  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions when required.

  • Greet all visitors in a courteous and professional manner while maintaining vigilant access control.

  • Provide supervision and assistance during student, faculty, and staff arrival and dismissal periods.

  • Monitor CCTV, access control systems, and alarm systems.

  • Coordinate and manage crowd control and safety planning during school events.

  • Collaborate closely with Facilities, Admissions, Athletics, After school Programs, and other operational departments.

  • Maintain detailed incident reports and shift documentation.

  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.

  • Adhere to The Chapin School’s policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional security experience, preferably in an educational setting or prior law enforcement experience.

  • Familiarity with CCTV systems, access control systems, alarm systems, event security planning, and communication systems.

  • Minimum of 60 college credits.

  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-stress situations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Ability to stand, walk, and conduct extended patrols, including climbing stairs in a multi-story building.

  • Valid NYS Security Guard License.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Google Workspace.

Preferred
  • CPR Certification preferred.

  • FDNY F-01 and F-04 certifications preferred.

  • Demonstrated supervisory or shift-lead experience strongly preferred.

Salary commensurate with experience. The range is: $75,000 – $85,000 per year
