The Director of Security is responsible for the strategic leadership, development, and oversight of all security operations across a large portfolio of program locations throughout New York City. This role ensures the safety and security of persons served, staff, and visitors while supporting a trauma-informed, service-oriented environment. The Director of Security will implement best practices in security management, ensure compliance with city, state, and federal regulations, and work collaboratively with program, real estate, facilities, and IT to promote a safe and respectful community.
ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Strategy
- Develop and implement a comprehensive, organization-wide security strategy, including a security work plan.
- Establish and oversee security‑related policies, procedures, post orders, and emergency protocols that balance safety, client rights, and a trauma‑informed approach, in coordination with Compliance and Legal.
- Assess, recommend, and support governance of physical security technologies including CCTV, access control, and related systems in collaboration with IT and Facilities, ensuring consistency, data integrity, and appropriate use across program sites.
- Provide leadership and serve as the primary security advisor to executive leadership and program staff.
- Develop and maintain security metrics, dashboards, and executive level reports to support leadership oversight.
Operations Management
- Oversee daily security operations across all program sites.
- Conduct site visits and assessments 2-3 times per week to identify vulnerabilities and recommend improvements.
- Liaise with program staff and third party security vendors to address security and safety related issues.
- Manage relationships with third‑party security vendors, including regular meetings with account reps to ensure delivery of quality services.
- In collaboration with the legal department, review and negotiate all third‑party security vendor contracts and ensure contractual compliance.
- Responsible for drafting RFPs and overseeing bidding process for all third‑party security vendors.
- Review and approve all third‑party security vendor invoices.
- Provide security planning and readiness support for new program openings, program transitions, and site expansions, including risk assessments and vendor alignment.
Safety Incident Management and Risk Management
- Draft site visit reports, assessments and follow‑up protocols for quality improvement purposes.
- Analyze security‑related incident data to identify trends and preventive strategies, and provide subject matter expertise, documentation, and reporting to support governance and oversight of security operations and risk mitigation.
- Respond to critical incidents and coordinate crisis management efforts.
- Attend internal S:
US Incident Review Committee and Workplace Violence Committee meetings to provide guidance as to security best practices.
Training & Development
- Design and implement security training programs for program staff and third‑party security staff.
- Attend security related trainings and webinars to ensure security best practices at S:
US. - Partner with program staff to promote safety awareness.
Collaboration & Community Relations
- Build strong relationships with NYPD, community stakeholders, and local precincts.
- Collaborate with internal departments including program, real estate, facilities, and IT.
- Support a culture of respect, equity, and inclusion in all security practices.
Required Education and Experience
