Position: INSPECTOR, 1ST COMMAND-PATROL OPERATIONS
Location: New York

Deputy Director of Security (M-I)

9:00am-5:00pm

Responsibilities
  • Provide day‑to‑day management of field security forces, including direct supervision of Lieutenants and Captains assigned to supervise Sergeants who monitor and supervise Patrol Officers and contract guards. Manage and direct Law Enforcement requirements to Captains and Lieutenants as incidents occur.
  • Perform on‑site inspections to observe first‑hand results of security monitoring performed by Lieutenants/Sergeants with oversight by Captains. Evaluate performance and effectiveness of Captains, Lieutenants, and other security personnel.
  • Direct and oversee investigations of particular incidents and assessments of security risks including development of appropriate documents and timely reporting.
  • Establish goals, objectives, and priorities regarding maintenance of security, deterrence of undesirable incidents and effective responses.
  • Advise the Chief of Patrol Operations of significant security issues and concerns, submit regular reports and make recommendations for improved security services.
  • Assist the Chief of Patrol Operations and Assistant Deputy Commissioner in determining personnel needs; ensure proper scheduling and deployment of field security personnel for adequate post coverage and maximum utilization of available resources.
  • Advise the Chief of Patrol Operations in regard to the Workplace Violence Prevention Program. Attend union walk through of newly occupied spaces and assist with the yearly review of Workplace Violence Incidents with the Committee.
  • Serve as liaison to New York City Police Department and other law enforcement agencies.
  • May perform the duties of the Chief of Patrol Operations in his/her absence.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and six years of full-time, satisfactory experience in a protection or security program; at least eighteen months must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or in supervising security personnel.
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above. However, all candidates must have the eighteen months experience in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or in supervising security personnel.
Preferred Skills
  • Expanded administrative police/security experience, including extensive knowledge of the NYS Penal Law, the NYS Criminal Procedure Law and current arrest procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of peace officer training parameters.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in NYS Public Employer Workplace Violence Prevention Programs.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, leadership and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience working with local, state and federal law enforcement entities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cross‑functional and positive working relationships.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
