Location: New York
Correctional Sergeant (Ontario)
Snake River Correctional Institution – Ontario, Oregon. This posting is for multiple permanent and work‑out‑of‑class (WOC) opportunities for current ODOC and OCE employees only. Salary range: $6,720 – $8,501 for non‑PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may receive an adjusted range inclusive of an additional 6.95%.
Responsibilities- Oversee custody, control, and supervision of adult inmates while upholding the Department of Corrections mission.
- Serve as a lead worker, ensuring facility operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently.
- Supervise AICs during movement assignments, monitor high‑security areas, and conduct security operations such as transports, searches, and emergency response.
- Assist in staff development, including training and mentorship as a Field Training Officer (FTO).
- Model professionalism, accountability, and behaviors that support rehabilitation efforts.
- Two (2) years of experience in a correctional security setting with primary duties involving care and custody of AICs.
- Be able to obtain an Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Correctional Certificate or an equivalent Correctional Certificate within two weeks.
- High School Diploma or GED certificate.
- 21 years of age or older.
- U.S. citizen.
- Education will not substitute for the required experience.
- Ability to obtain a valid Oregon motor vehicle operator’s license.
