Overview

The Security Officer is responsible for the daily security of the Hospital and its clinics. The Security Officer observes all visitors and employees of the Hospital and ensures proper Hospital policies and procedures are followed. The Security Officer prevents all illegal activities on the Hospital property and may be called upon to transport critical items and escort Hospital employees to and from assigned work areas.

• Prevention of all illegal activities on Hospital property, detecting and preventing pilfering, larceny, malicious mischief, burglary and destruction of property.
• Removal of unauthorized persons from Hospital property, preventing and prohibiting peddlers or vendors unless authorized by a supervisor.
• Enforcement of Identification Badge Policy and package‑pass control duties; no alcoholic beverages may be brought into the Hospital or clinics.
• Escort Hospital personnel between buildings and to Hospital properties and related areas, maintaining order and traffic flow, preventing illegal parking in the emergency room driveway, keeping corridors clear of patients and visitors, and clearing areas when code 99 staff are working.
• Challenge off‑duty employees entering the hospital to ensure they have a legitimate reason for re‑entry; report employees under the influence of intoxicants to the appropriate department head or administrator for disciplinary action.
• Open, close and secure gates and entrances as required; be familiar with all fire boxes and extinguishers; follow all instructions, orders and assignments from supervisors in Security.
• Demonstrate knowledge of proper use of equipment:

  • Alarm Systems
  • FOB Locking System

• Military or police work experience
• Security Officer experience
• New York State Security Guard Certification
• High School Diploma or equivalent
