Position: PERSONNEL SECURITY SPECIALIST with Security Clearance
Location: Latham

Duties As a Personnel Security Specialist (GS-0080-09), you will serve as a Personnel Security Specialist, responsible for assisting in the personnel security clearances process and supporting an Administrator/Adjudicator with suitability adjudications /determinations for the fitness and suitability on individuals for entry and retention in sensitive and non-sensitive positions required by Army. Additional, this position will review personnel security background investigations and other source documents that determine suitability, fitness, for federal employment, and other credentialing decisions.

Ensures investigative scoping items are met, personal identifying data and investigative questionnaire information is accurate and complete. Requirements Conditions of employment
* NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
* This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
* Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
* Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
* Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
* Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
* May be required to successfully complete a two year trial period.
* Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
* Attend the ARNG Security Manager Course within 12 months of hire.
* Obtain the Security Professional Certification(s) within 24 months of hire.
* This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain a top secret clearance, for positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
* Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
* The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial vehicles to perform temporary duty assignments.
* This is an Army National Guard dual status technician position which requires military membership.
* For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed. Qualifications Military Grades: ENLISTED ONLY GENERAL EXPERIENCE :
Experience, education or training in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately. Able to apply procedures and directives by reading and interpreting technical material. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing, using presentation and report formats. Demonstrated ability to follow directions, to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures. Learned ability to assess the surrounding environment to recognize immediate risk levels.

Must have the education and validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade for one of the seven organizational program disciplines and its applicable Security Series career. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE :
Must have one year equivalent to the next lower grade. Must have experience receiving, reviewing, and submitting requests for personnel clearances for serviced civilian, contractor, and military personnel; checking the request for completeness and accuracy and contacts the Security Manager, Supervisor, points of contact at the serviced units, and/or the individual subject of the background/clearance investigation for any questions or corrections that are required;

screening personnel, as well as local police records and finance documents for disclosed and undisclosed derogatory information, which may have an impact on the career of the subject under investigation; using computer software such as analysis tools to research and facilitate work; maintaining a file for status of pending investigations, status of all members, as well as periodic reinvestigations for secret and top secret clearances held;
Performing duties related to assisting suitability adjudications/determinations for the fitness and suitability of civilian employees, contractors and/or applicants for initial and continuing employment retention.
