Job SummaryThe New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) is seeking a Supervising Special Officer for the ACS Police Unit within the ACS Division of Administration. The selected candidate will join a team dedicated to protecting and promoting the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare, juvenile justice, and community support services.
Responsibilities- Manage and evaluate the performance of subordinate staff, including the preparation and submission of task, standards, and performance evaluations in accordance with agency policies.
- Supervise, evaluate, and coordinate assignments to ensure adequate coverage for facility operations.
- Oversee staff assignments and deployment with special attention to overtime, absenteeism, and equipment accountability.
- Ensure radio, CCTV, keys, and other security equipment are operational and accounted for during every tour.
- Maintain accurate logs of security department activities, including detailed records of entrants and incident reports.
- Interpret, implement, and enforce agency policies and procedures.
- Review and process City time submissions; resolve related issues.
- Conduct roll call; inspect Special Officers at posts and work areas.
- Respond to emergency situations, investigate, supervise, and assist subordinates with serious and unusual incidents.
- Prepare and submit reports and recommendations to superiors and keep them informed of potentially dangerous or unusual situations.
- Appear in court and assist other law‑enforcement agencies on arrest cases.
- Attend and pass Safe Crisis Management training.
- Attend and pass Peace Officer training as a condition of employment.
A four‑year high school diploma (or equivalent) and one year of full‑time satisfactory experience in law enforcement, protection, or security. All candidates must be qualified to serve as Peace Officers, satisfy state training requirements, and maintain certification for the duration of employment.
Assignment Levels- Assignment Level II: One year of experience as a Supervising Special Officer – Assignment Level I; or one year of supervisory experience in the field of law enforcement, protection, or security in addition to the minimum qualification requirements.
- Assignment Level III: Two years of experience as a Supervising Special Officer; or two additional years of full‑time experience in law enforcement, protection, or security, at least one year in a supervisory or administrative capacity, in addition to the minimum qualification requirements.
Section 424‑A of the New York Social Services Law requires an authorized agency to inquire whether a candidate for employment with child‑caring responsibilities has been the subject of a child‑abuse and maltreatment report.
