Duties
* Assist higher graded security specialists in carrying out well-defined, structured tasks in support of established security programs.
* Evaluate position sensitivity to ensure justification for requests of security clearances are valid for the current duty assignment.
* Manage and operate the Watervliet Access Background Check System, ensuring the system is maintained and operational for day-to-day operations, in accordance with applicable regulations and directives.
* Work in the Visitor Control Center (VCC), controlling installation access, operating and performing research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC/NCCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws.
* Perform basic office automation tasks. Requirements Conditions of employment
* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
* This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
* This position is designated as Mission Essential.
* Incumbent must work rotating shifts and other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and overtime.
* Incumbent must obtain and maintain certification on the following security systems: NCIC-III, EJUSTICE NY, AIE, JPAS, and PSI-COE. Certifications must be obtained within one year of hire, depending on course availability and/or funding.
* The duties of the position require occasional Official Temporary Duty travel (TDY) up to 5%.

Experience:

One year of specialized experience which includes
1) conduct security screening of personnel requesting access through a visitor center;
2) process security information through use of various databases and computer programs; and
3) maintain records for installation access. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Time in Grade Requirement:
