The College has one MMIII (Grade 17) position in the College’s Office of Central Facilities.
The shift will be from 7AM – 3PM, Monday through Friday.
The Maintenance Mechanic III is responsible for activities associated with construction projects including forklift and scissor lift operations. The position works directly with central facilities regarding the modifications of buildings and equipment.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES- As supervisor and member of the Central Facilities construction team, complete College construction projects at all three campuses including space renovations, modifications and repairs as directed, advance these projects based on blue prints and sketches, verbal and written communications.
- Provide take-offs and create material lists for the performance of the work. Inspect project areas and provide insight on renovation options and constructability.
- Communicate with various stakeholders on the progress of the work and any impacts on operations or staff.
- Perform clerk of the work duties for various College construction projects.
- Perform daily onsite observations of progress and quality of work completed by General contractors and any of their sub-contractors.
- Inspect buildings and structures in the course of construction, alteration and repair for compliance.
- Check materials delivered to site.
- Observe testing required by contract.
- Attend meetings with contractors to discuss the work and relay any problems to Central Facilities.
- Keep an accurate log of on-site activities.
- Prepare written field notes and submit to Central Facilities.
- Perform various inspections of College facilities and identifies needed repairs.
- Perform general carpentry work in the construction, alteration and maintenance of buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows and furniture;
- Performs skilled work in a carpentry shop operating power saws, joiner’s wood lathes and planers;
- Determines types and amounts of materials suitable for painting and staining projects, including special mixtures, epoxies, primers, lacquers, stains and finishes; prepares surfaces by taping, spackling, plastering or sanding, and applies paint or stain to interiors and exteriors of buildings, furniture and equipment, using brushes, rollers and spray guns;
- Installs, maintains or repairs valves, faucets, traps, sinks, washbowls, and other plumbing fixtures;
- Cuts and threads pipe, solders joint, checks for leaks;
- Selects proper welding heat and proper type of materials for correct penetration and strength;
- Builds new pipelines;
- Prepares surfaces to be painted, mixes and matches paints and stains, applies paint to surfaces using brushes, rollers and spray guns.
Adept with tools associated with carpentry and general construction; collaborative; communicative; good time management; problem solver. Thorough knowledge of the practices, materials, tools and methods of the assigned craft or specialty area; thorough knowledge of the pertinent rules, regulations and codes which are applicable to the assigned craft or specialty area; thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work;
skill in the use and care of tools, materials and equipment of the trade; ability to understand and work from general instructions, building specifications, blueprints or sketches; ability to make time, labor and material estimates; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to supervise the work of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale;
physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Either:
- Completion of two (2) years of vocational education courses in a vocational school program or in an apprentice or training program in one of the craft areas and two (2) years of experience in the craft or specialty to which the incumbent will be assigned; or,
- Four (4) years of experience in the craft or specialty to which the incumbent will be assigned; or,
- An equivalent combination of the above education, or training, and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b); or,
