SUNY Niagara is seeking a highly skilled Building Maintenance Person II to join our dedicated Operations team. This role involves independent, hands‑on work performing a variety of mechanical, operational, and maintenance tasks across our campuses. With over 500,000 square feet of facility space and 200 acres of scenic property, SUNY Niagara’s campuses offer an exceptional setting for this vital role.
Key Responsibilities- Perform mechanical, building operation, and maintenance tasks on complex building systems.
- Utilize journeyman‑level skills and trade knowledge to ensure safe, efficient building functionality.
- Perform skilled carpentry work including installation, repair, and finishing of drywall, framing, doors, windows, and other structural components.
- Assist with renovation and repair projects requiring precise measurements, material selection, and finishing work.
- Work across two campuses—our main campus in Sanborn, NY, and the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute in downtown Niagara Falls.
Good knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology, and hazards of one or more standard buildings trades; good knowledge of modern buildings and equipment maintenance and repair practices; good knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning) systems; ability to work from plans, specifications, and rough sketches; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
ability to work well with others and supervise and direct others on work projects; good motor, hand and eye coordination; mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity; initiative and resourcefulness; industry and dependability; willingness to be on call to report to work; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
