This includes Clubhouses in Manhattan, the Bronx, Hollywood, California and Care Management, Home and Community-Based Services and a large housing program ranging from 24‑hour supervised residences to scattered site supported apartments. The Facilities Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance and repair tasks on a variety of equipment, machinery, and systems. Additionally, the Maintenance Technician’s role is to ensure Fountain House facilities are kept safe, clean and operate in a dignified manner consistent with the organization’s mission.
Job Details- Full-time: 40 hours per week
- Includes occasional evening & weekends
- Based in Hell’s Kitchen with occasional travel to other sites in Manhattan & Bronx
- $25.56 per hour
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect and troubleshoot machinery and equipment to identify any issues or malfunctions.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, light carpentry and replacement of parts.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, HVAC and plumbing problems.
- Read and interpret technical manuals and schematics to perform repairs.
- Operate hand and power tools and other specialized tools as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety guidelines and regulations.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks to avoid breakdowns and downtime.
- Collaborate with other maintenance staff and managers to identify and prioritize maintenance needs.
- Respond to emergency repair requests in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Inspect property for safety, upkeep and repairs.
- Support deliveries from vendors and suppliers.
- Perform sidewalk and garden upkeep, collect trash, etc.
- Check functionality of safety systems (e.g., fire alarm).
- Work with a diverse community at multiple sites, collaborating with workers and others.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be dependable, flexible, proactive, approachable, learn from feedback and take initiative.
- Ability and willingness to learn new systems, read technical manuals and drawings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical stamina and dexterity are essential.
- Valid NYS driver’s license preferred.
- Basic understanding of Microsoft suite (Emails, Calendars and basic Excel spreadsheets).
- Understanding of the organization’s mission and willingness to work in partnership with staff and members.
- High school diploma or GED, required.
- 3‑5 years of maintenance experience and general knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems preferred.
- Must obtain certificates of fitness for Fire Guard (FO1) & Supervision of Fire Alarm systems (S95) within the first year of employment.
- Other certificates of fitness in HVAC, Standpipe and Life Safety systems are a plus.
- Experience using hand and electrical tools required.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs or more.
- Ability to perform essential job functions consistently and safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
