About the RoleWe're hiring a motivated Entry-Level Small Engine Mechanic to join our team in the heart of New York City! This is an excellent entry point into the industry for someone eager to gain hands‑on experience repairing a variety of outdoor power equipment. You'll service gas, corded electric, and increasingly popular battery‑powered tools in a busy urban shop serving residential and commercial customers across the five boroughs.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose and repair small engines and power equipment (lawn mowers, string trimmers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, generators, pressure washers, etc.)
- Perform routine maintenance: oil changes, spark plugs, filters, carburetor tuning, blade sharpening, and more
- Troubleshoot and repair corded electric equipment (wiring, motors, switches, plugs, and power supply issues)
- Service battery-powered (cordless) equipment (lithium‑ion battery testing/charging, motor diagnostics, controllers, chargers, wiring, and basic DC electrical repairs)
- Use hand tools, power tools, multimeters, and diagnostic equipment to disassemble, repair, and reassemble units
- Ensure all work meets safety, performance, and manufacturer standards
- Maintain accurate repair logs, parts usage, and time tracking
- Keep the workspace clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations
- Collaborate with senior techs and participate in ongoing training
- Entry-level applicants welcome — no extensive experience required, but any background in small engines, automotive, electrical work, powersports, or appliance repair is a big plus
- Basic familiarity (or strong willingness to learn fast) with:
- 2‑stroke and 4‑stroke gas engines
- Corded electric tools and motors
- Comfortable with hand tools, basic electrical testing (multimeter use), and shop safety
- Mechanical aptitude, problem‑solving mindset, and attention to detail
- Valid driver’s license and reliable way to commute in NYC
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for most of the day
- Comprehensive on‑the‑job training and mentorship from experienced NYC‑based technicians
- Path to manufacturer certifications (STIHL, EGO, Husqvarna, Echo, Milwaukee, etc.)
