Maintenance Worker
Samaritan Daytop Villageoperatesover 60 facilities across NYC,Westchester,Long Island, and the Hudson Valley,providinga wide range of human services to more than 38,000 New Yorkers annually.
The Maintenance Worker keeps the building facilities in good working order by performing basic repairs, checking equipment, handling small fixes in areas like plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry, and helping with snow removal when needed. Candidates should have general building maintenance skills and hands‑on experience independently making regular day-to-day repairs preferably within an institutional facility.
- Complete everyday building repairs, including patching drywall, fixing flooring (including VCT), hanging doors, and installing or replacing locks
- Handle basic plumbing tasks such as replacing fixtures, and clearing clogs and backups
- Do light carpentry such as hanging sheetrock, and repairing or installing drop ceilings
- Perform basic electrical work like replacing switches and outlets, and coordinate with licensedelectriciansfor larger repairs and projects as needed
- Monitor HVAC systems, change filters, troubleshoot thermostats, and coordinate with HVAC vendors when needed
- Respond to maintenance tickets, completing tasks directly or escalating to contractors when required
- Assist licensed electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and other contractors by preparing work areas, coordinating access, and supporting larger repairs and projects
- Keep tools, supplies, and work areas clean and organized
- Assist with snow removal and other seasonal tasks
- Helpmaintaina safe, clean, and well‑functioning facility for staff and clients
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2-3 years of hands-on maintenance or trade experience
- Ability to handle common plumbing issues like clogs and fixture replacements
- Comfort with simple electrical tasks like changing switches and outlets
- Experience with basic carpentry, drywall patching, and door/lock installation
- Able tomonitor
HVAC systems and troubleshoot thermostat issues - Ability towork withother contractors effectively to ensure completion of work within thefacilityon larger repairs or projects
- Good problem‑solving skills and able to work independently
- Able to follow safety and confidentiality guidelines
- Must have a valid F-80 transitional, and S-95 based on the type of alarm system in the building
- Flexibility to assist at other facilities as needed.
Additional Information
This is a full-time non-exempt role with an hourly rate of $30.77 (annualized at 35 hours a week to $56,000) with a full benefits package. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 25 days of paid time off, access to a retirement account with an employer match, tuition reimbursement and daily pay.
This role is located in Jamaica, Queens and has a schedule of Monday & Thursday 7am-3pm;
Tuesday, Wednesday, & Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.
