Position: Mobile Diesel Mechanic II $2,000 New Hire Bonus
Location: New York

Overview

Mobile Diesel Technician II – DOT Management Level. Conducts licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light electronic and hydraulic repairs, and diagnostic work on light, medium, and heavy‑duty trucks and trailers in a mobile field environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, fan clutch, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck systems using handheld computers, pressure gauges, air conditioning systems, and other diagnostic instruments.
  • Conduct road tests to verify correct operation and safety.
  • Inspect, test, and use diagnostic instruments to identify malfunctions.
  • Manage parts inventory, perform periodic reconciliation, and obtain parts from approved vendors.
  • Maintain safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections on company‑issued service trucks.
  • Work independently, manage daily schedule, prioritize tasks, and maintain productivity.
  • Communicate with clients, assess needs, resolve problems, and provide assistance.
  • Document work, upload pictures, parts used, and findings to Repair Orders via the TRAIT application and iOS device.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation.
  • Follow safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED, with ≥3 years in a related field (or equivalently a degree/certification plus 5 years of experience).
  • Must possess a set of hand tools necessary for the role.
  • Achieve Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
  • Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening, DOT physical, and hold a valid DOT medical card with at least 4 months remaining (or complete a DOT physical if less). Must be ≥21 years old.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File.
Certifications (must obtain within 18 months)
  • ASE T8 (PMI)
  • ASE T3 (Drivetrain)
  • ASE T4 (Brakes)
  • ASE T5 (Suspension)
  • ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems)
  • ASE T7 (HVAC)
  • ASE 608/609 (Diesel Emission Systems)
Skills and Abilities
  • Apply logic and reasoning to solve problems and evaluate alternatives.
  • Lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor.
  • Communicate clearly, organize information, and engage in effective two‑way communication.
  • Determine appropriate tools and equipment; assess object distance and judgment of proximity.
