Job Summary
Mobile Trailer Repair Technician II – support growth of Cox Fleet by performing certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light repairs, and other duties on trailers and equipment at customer sites.
Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs, DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on various trailers and equipment with minimal supervision.
- Document work using iOS devices and TRAIT application, uploading pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all required documentation in a timely fashion.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical components and other mechanical issues.
- Manage parts inventory, reconcile supplied parts, and maintain the company‑issued service truck.
- Conduct safety checks, pre‑/post‑trip inspections and maintain the service vehicle per company and regulatory requirements.
- Respond to dispatched unscheduled service requests via the call centre.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, welding equipment, and jacks to perform repairs.
- Work independently, schedule own daily tasks, and maintain high productivity within standard repair times.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals for repair estimates, purchase orders, and release Repair Order findings.
- Follow all safety, health, and environmental policies, and complete company safety training.
- Maintain professional relationships with assigned customers and vendors.
- High School Diploma/GED and minimum 3 years of experience in a related field (Trailers). Alternative qualifications may include a higher degree or 5 years of experience.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
- OEM training and certifications are preferred.
- Pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or valid DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining).
- Must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid driver’s license, and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Class CDL C license required.
- Valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license required.
- ASE T8 (PMI) certification
- ASE 608/609 certification*
- ASE T4 (Brakes) certification
- ASE T5 (Suspension) certification
- ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems) certification
- ASE T7 (HVAC) certification
- Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, and ability to perform repairs and maintenance.
- Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderate heavy labor.
- Strong communication skills – both written and verbal.
- Ability to determine appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.
- Logical reasoning and problem‑solving skills for alternative solutions.
