Fireman - Boiler Maintenance

Requirements

• High School or GED
• Completion of a program in Trade School
• Three (3) to five (5) years Journeyman experience operating and maintaining power plant.
• EPA Certification for Boiler
• Mechanical skills
• Communication skills

• Answers telephone, radio call and/or pager to receive job assignments.
• Performs minor repairs using tools such as replacing worn gaskets, pipe nipples, tightening joints and replacing defective meters and broker water column tubes.
• Responsible for all boiler room equipment, under the supervision of Stationary Engineer.
• Fires boilers and controls generation of a contiguous supply of steam for all Hospital buildings, thus supplying steam for all Hospital requirements.
• Maintains continuous tour of boiler room to observe operating equipment, meters and gauges to ensure that operation is in accordance with specific instructions.
• Adjusts valves to control the flow of water and fuel and to decrease or increase steam pressure and firing rate as required.
• Adjusts equipment control to correct malfunction when indicated by observation or in response to signal alarm.
• Records in a log book meter gauge, graph readings, and all repair work performed.
• Performs periodic testing and treatment of boiler water.
• Maintains a safe work environment. Maintains a satisfactory attendance/punctuality record.
• Orders engineering supplies, parts, tools and equipment.
• Interacts effectively with all levels of personnel.
• Keeps maintenance records to meet reporting requirements of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
