Overview
The Facilities Supervisor oversees engineering personnel performing a variety of preventive, corrective and emergency repairs and services. Assigns work and sets work schedules. Directs, trains and supervises plumbers, carpenters, painters, and masons in diagnosing and repairing facility equipment and systems. Develops and implements solutions to all related maintenance problems.
Responsibilities- Provides hands‑on expertise, knowledge, training, and instruction to engineering staff. Assigns work, sets work schedules, and establishes priorities to ensure the program for patient comfort receives maximum support from the department. Administers preventive maintenance program.
- Directs, trains, and supervises trades positions in diagnosing and repair of facility equipment.
- Oversees the installation, maintenance and repair of all plumbing, piping and related equipment covering domestic water systems, steam, gas, oil, and sprinkler systems. Inspects scheduled work for quality and completeness.
- Procures all necessary equipment, material, supplies and parts needed to carry out the project at hand and maintains an inventory of parts crucial to the operation of this equipment.
- Participates in hiring of staff; recommends promotions, disciplinary action and terminations; carries out annual performance appraisal on employees supervised.
- Obtains certifications/permits for installation and repairs, diagnosing problems, establishing priorities for areas of responsibility.
- Reads and uses blueprints, schematics, specifications, mechanical, electrical and plumbing drawings.
- Is familiar with, and able to use, a variety of materials needed for the operation and maintenance of the Medical Center’s plumbing, piping and other systems as required.
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Handles hazardous materials management which may include but is not limited to characterizing wastes, labeling containers, adding waste to containers, maintaining containers in satellite or central accumulation areas, recordkeeping and reporting, reviewing or completing hazardous waste manifests, or oversight of any of the aforementioned activities.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
NYC Fire Department (FDNY) Certificates of fitness F-01, F-07, F-78, S-95, F-89, S-12, S-13, G-71 or A-35 preferred.
Role requires completion of annual hazardous materials training as required by OSHA, DOT, DEC and all agencies that have jurisdiction.
ExperienceMinimum of 5 years of field related experience, with additional education and/or field experience in Construction and Facilities Management; or a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of field related experience.
Prior supervisory or lead experience in Facilities, Engineering, or related field preferred.
Prior related experience working in an inpatient healthcare facility highly preferred.
Skills- Ability to select and use tools and equipment appropriate to the task.
- Ability to read and use blueprints, schematics, specifications and mechanical, electrical and plumbing drawings.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position; knowledge of a second language preferred.
USD $67,000.00 – $77,000.00 per year.
