Mobile Diesel Technician ICompensation
Hourly base pay rate is $24.09 - $36.11 per hour, varying within the anticipated range based on location and candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Potential additional compensation may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program. New Hire Bonus of $2000, paid 50% after 30 days and 50% after 180 days. The position requires 100% travel.
ResponsibilitiesThe Mobile Diesel Technician I will be responsible for performing DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, and light repairs. The Technician I can perform more advanced repairs under the supervision of a Mobile Diesel Technician II or higher. The Technician I assists higher‑level Technicians with repairs and continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. Work is frequently audited for quality and must comply with all company policies and achieve high performance metrics.
Duties- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustment and repairs on various truck equipment: electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, differentials, etc.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment provided on company‑issued service truck; perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards; upload pictures, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders ("RO") using iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
- Work independently, managing own daily schedule while maintaining productivity and meeting standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management/support via email or phone for repair estimates and order numbers.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
- High School Diploma/GED and up to 2 years’ experience in a related field.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
- OEM training and certifications are preferred.
- Participate in and complete all company‑required training.
- Must pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical. A valid DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining may substitute a DOT physical.
- Must be at least 21 years old. Valid driver’s license and CDL‑B driver’s license required; must obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- ASE T8 (PMI) certification required; must be obtained within 18 months.
- Preferred: ASE T4 (Brakes) certification.
- Understand implications of new information for problem‑solving and decision‑making.
- Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor.
- Ability to exert oneself physically over long periods without tiring, including repetitive tasks.
- Communicates information succinctly and organized.
- Engages in effective two‑way communication with individuals and groups.
- Ability to determine required tools and equipment.
- Ability to judge distances accurately.
