Location: West Coxsackie

Position Summary

First Student is hiring a Diesel Mechanic in West Coxsackie, NY serving the Coxsackie-Athens Central School District.

Pay Rate: $28.00-$30.00 hr.

Hours:
Monday-Friday 7:00am-4:00pm

Hiring Bonus
  • $5,000 HIRING BONUS
Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance on brakes, suspensions, drive trains, & transmissions
  • Complete work orders
  • Assist with mobile emergency services
  • Maintain fleet of newer vehicles to ensure road‑safe operation
  • Use diagnostic skills to troubleshoot issues and plan repair work
Qualifications
  • 3 years of experience working with automotive, diesel, electric, or CNG vehicles
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to obtain a CDL (training provided)
  • Mechanic’s tool set
  • Strong desire to grow, learn, and develop skills through ASE testing
  • Ability to work in a role that meaningfully impacts the community
Preferred Background
  • No college degree
  • Military experience
  • Returning to the workforce
  • Looking for hourly (not flat‑rate) jobs
Benefits and Compensation
  • $28.00-$30.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications (not flat‑rate)
  • ASE incentive of $0.25/hour for each relevant ASE obtained (training materials and exams reimbursed)

Safety

Mechanics and technicians are subject to DOT drug testing as a safety‑sensitive employee. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
