Duties Description JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions:
Performs journey level electrical work and supervises others in the repair, maintenance and installation of electrical systems and equipment, following applicable electric code regulations and safety procedures
Operates, troubleshoots, and maintenance/repairs the campus utility systems including generators, HVAC equipment, fire alarms, and building management systems
Effectively uses and procures parts, operator/repair manuals, and performs/recommends possible repair solutions
Documents and reports repair and maintenance needs including detailed sketches and part orders and overseas or perform repairs to completion
Gives verbal instructions and/or demonstrates proper and safe methods of performing electrical work and the use of electrician tools and equipment
Executes, observes, and/or inspects work while in progress. Ensures that the job is done properly and that electrical codes are followed
Keeps accurate and detailed records of all generator maintenance, inspection and testing as required by EPA, DEC, and Facilities & Planning
Performs basic generator (diesel/natural gas) troubleshooting tasks, including but not limited to oil, battery, exhaust pipe, starter, and cooling system component changes. Troubleshoots and repairs of AC & DC electrical equipment including transfer switch repairs, coil and relay replacements, load testing and identifying connected loads
Coordinates and performs routinely scheduled load tests with campus departments and outside vendors as needed
Coordinates or performs corrective and preventive maintenance to components of the generator system
Job Requirements:
Working knowledge of electrical theory as applied to the electrical trades
Working knowledge of practices and techniques of the electrical trade
Working knowledge of the mathematics of the electrical trades
Working knowledge of applicable standards and electrical code regulations
As assigned, working knowledge of the operation and repair of digital timing devices used in traffic control signal systems
Basic knowledge of electronic theory and practice as applied to the electrical trades
Assigned, working knowledge of the rules and regulations of the facility governing the activities of persons for whom the State has custody or responsibility under the supervision of an Electrician
Ability to read circuit diagrams, architectural blueprints, and generator and motor control diagrams
Ability to use the tools, equipment, and materials of the electrical trade
As assigned, ability to train and supervisor others
Operating Needs:
Performs journey level work including the planning and laying out of work, and the diagnosis of trouble in electrical systems or equipment for the entire facility including emergency generators
Reads and understands wiring diagrams and blueprints, and written procedures
Works with independence as is typical of journey level workers
Possess a valid New York State Driver license, Class D or above. (other than a motorcycle license) that will be verified through the NY State Dept. of Motor Vehicles. Must pass LENS check
Demonstrates experience with all facets of electricity including but not limited to electric services (all voltage levels), motor control systems, fire alarm systems, building management systems, lighting, and emergency power systems
Capable of medium to heavy labor and lifting
Works efficiently from bucket trucks, motorized lifts, scaffolding, ladders, and in confined spaces
Performs skills necessary to meet code requirements of the equipment maintenance safely and protect system integrity
