The Unit Build Mechanic will provide technical support to the HVAC Commercial Engineering team in Syracuse, NY. This includes building, brazing, soldiering, modifying, moving, charging, and installing AC/Heating units for test or recycling.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Build, modify, and install HVAC units to be used in psychrometric testing with support from senior mechanics, or decommission units after testing
- Install thermocouples and other sensors in test units
- Install units in psychrometric test rooms
- Coordinate with engineers and lab technicians to change out components on a rooftop HVAC unit
- Fabricate, modify, and install ductwork
- Tear down old units and sort materials for scrap
- Work closely with engineering and product teams to ensure continued product/market fit
- Able to anticipate and quickly adapt systems and practices to changes in customer requirements
- Find the balance between producing high quality products and on‑time delivery
- Ability to recognize and rebalance priorities as needed to keep the entire team focused on important, high‑value efforts
- Looks for areas to improve process and capabilities in the lab and follow through to implement those improvements
- Assists with and leads the implementation and development of lab objectives and initiatives
- High School Diploma or GED
- More than two years of experience in a business environment
- More than one year of experience with HVAC
- More than one year of experience with electrical wiring
- More than one year of experience reading and interpreting technical drawings
- Ability to install delicate test instrumentation
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Works well independently and as part of a team
- Desires to learn and grow in all aspects of mechanic work
- Adopts a safety‑first mentality and demonstrates that mentality to others
- Follows all EH&S guidelines and suggests improvements while maintaining a clean work environment
- EPA 608 Universal Certification
