Mobile Diesel Technician II – DOT Management Level – Company:

Job Summary:
The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Technician will also perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher, continually learning advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment such as electrical, brake and cooling systems, starters and alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust and repair equipment across these systems.
- Inspect, test and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road‑test vehicles to confirm correct operation after repairs.
- Identify problems, evaluate alternatives using sound judgment, and determine accuracy and relevance of information.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on a company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the service vehicle, conduct safety checks and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve problems.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
- Document work and upload pictures of work performed, parts used and findings to Repair Orders via the company iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation in a timely manner.
- Operate independently, managing daily schedule and maintaining productivity within standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for estimates, approvals and report notes.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health and environmental policies and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA and DOT.
- High School Diploma or GED and at least 3 years of experience in a related field (or equivalent combination of degree/certification and experience).
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
- Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or provide a valid DOT medical card with >4 months validity).
- Be at least 21 years old, hold a valid driver's license, and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Be a safe driver with a valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license.
- Must be able to lift, bend, climb, stand and walk for long periods and perform moderate physical labor.
- Have good written and verbal communication skills.
- Maintain current ASE certifications: T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), and T8 (PMI).
- Comprehend new information for current and future problem solving.
- Lift, bend, climb, stand, walk and perform moderate heavy labor for extended periods.
- Communicate information succinctly and in an organized manner.
- Engage in effective two‑way communication with individuals and groups.
- Determine required tools and equipment for tasks.
- Accurately judge object distances and relative distances.
- Use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternatives and solutions.
