About Your Role

The Facility Service Technician — Mechanical is a Data Airflow (DAF) employee deployed as embedded supplemental support staff within a client data center facility. Day-to-day directives and operational priorities are driven by the client’s facility management team, including their Director of Operations, Facility Manager(s), and Engineering Manager(s). This role is critical to sustaining the mechanical reliability of a large-scale, mission-critical data center environment.

The technician operates, inspects, maintains, and troubleshoots a broad range of mechanical and cooling infrastructure systems to ensure continuous uptime and performance.

What You’ll Do (Job Responsibilities)
  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems, including centrifugal chillers, pumps, fans, motors, and heat rejection equipment such as dry coolers, cooling towers, and condensers.
  • Operate, monitor, and document performance of cooling infrastructure, including CRAHs, CRACs, AHUs, fan walls, fan coils, and equivalent systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems, packaged rooftop units (RTUs), and DX compressor systems.
  • Manage refrigerant safely in accordance with EPA Section 608 regulations and site-specific EHS protocols.
  • Monitor, navigate, and document Building Automation System (BAS) and Building Management System (BMS) platforms;
Tridium Niagara controls experience strongly preferred.
  • Support Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) troubleshooting, programming verification, and preventive maintenance.
  • Conduct and document regular building rounds, recording readings from mechanical and environmental monitoring points.
  • Execute preventive maintenance (PM) work orders, method of procedure (MOP) tasks, and corrective maintenance activities within client SLA requirements.
  • Coordinate with client engineering staff, third-party vendors, and service contractors for scheduled maintenance and emergent repairs.
  • Assist in root cause analysis (RCA) and incident documentation following abnormal system events or equipment failures.
  • Maintain accurate records within the facility’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Uphold all DAF and site-specific safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and permit-to-work requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need to Get the Job Done:
  • 3+ years of hands‑on mechanical maintenance experience in a data center, mission‑critical facility, industrial, or equivalent environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, pumps, fans, and associated mechanical systems.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification (required).
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment schematics, and sequence‑of‑operations documentation.
  • Solid understanding of HVAC principles, hydronic systems, and mechanical system integration.
  • Strong troubleshooting capability with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical failures under pressure.
  • Familiarity with BAS/BMS platforms for system monitoring and alarm response.
  • Experience with CMMS platforms to log work orders, track PM completion, and document findings.
  • Preferred:
Experience with Tridium Niagara BAS/BMS controls platform.
  • Preferred:
Trade school, technical certification, or associate degree in HVAC, mechanical engineering technology, or a related field.
  • Preferred: OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Physical ability to perform the demands of the role: prolonged standing and walking, working in confined spaces, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
