Supervisor Carpenter

this is a temporary position with duration for 18 months. The new york city housing authority (nycha) is the nation’s oldest and largest public housing authority with more than 177,000 apartments, and responsibility for administering a citywide section 8 leased housing program that serves over 200,000 additional tenants. The healthy homes office of mold assessment and remediation (omar) is seeking a qualified carpenter supervisor to join the enhanced oversight program plus (eop plus). This program addresses mold and leak repair backlogs. As part of a 30+ member temporary staff consisting of bricklayers, carpenters, painters, and plumbers, selected candidates will work at various developments across the city, focusing on resolving work orders older than 100 days and contributing to the reduction of backlogs and improved response times.

In this role, carpenter supervisor expertise will be applied to address critical mold and leak repair needs, ensuring repairs are completed efficiently with faster response times. The program will focus efforts on specific sites where the work will directly impact site maintenance and the overall quality of living for residents.

• supervise and coordinate daily activities of carpenters and other assigned personnel.
• plan, assign, and review work to ensure it meets project specifications and quality standards.
• interpret blueprints, drawings, and project documents to guide carpentry tasks.
• ensure proper use and maintenance of carpentry tools, equipment, and materials.
• monitor work progress and make adjustments to schedules as needed.
• inspect completed work to ensure compliance with safety standards and building codes.
• train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to carpenters.
• enforce safety protocols and promote a safe work environment.
• communicate with project managers, contractors, and other trades to coordinate activities.
• assist with material procurement and inventory management for carpentry needs.

• seven (7) years of recent, satisfactory, full‑time, paid experience as a carpenter, at least two (2) years of which must have been spent in duties of a supervisory nature; or a satisfactory equivalent.
• experienced (non‑manager) candidates acceptable.
