Duties Description
• Construction, maintenance and rehab work on infrastructure including buildings, recreation facilities, bridges, dams, and access roads

* Trail work

* Fisheries FAS, BLS, FPA, Wildlife, and Land & Forest parking lot maintenance

* Must be competent in the use of carpentry tools and equipment

* Chainsaw and brush saw operation

* Light and heavy equipment operation

* Perform field maintenance on tools and equipment

* Boundary line maintenance

* Follow all safety standards and procedures and complete all training

* Manual lifting of up to 80 pounds

* Work off ladders and scaffolding

* Must have a minimum CDL Class B within 12 months of hire

* Will be subject to the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and will be randomly tested

* Maintain all certifications such as Chainsaw Safety and Operation and CPR/AED and First Aid

* Complete all yearly training required by NYSDEC

Minimum Qualifications Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work

under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two
- year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services,

such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS

CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of

experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a

school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services..

* Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades

Traineeship.

Must obtain a Class B CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no airbrake restriction.

Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2027, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.

Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.

Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.

Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.

Must be able to work in remote areas.

Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.

Travel may be required.

Overtime may be required.

Overnight travel may be required.

Weekends and holidays may be required.

Must be available for emergency response.
