Job Overview

Perform construction and grading duties on industrial projects, ensuring safety, quality, and adherence to project specifications.

• Practice safety rules and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Use hand and power tools safely.
• Report to and assist the immediate supervisor.
• Perform quality work as determined by project specifications.
• Account for all tools and materials at the end of your shift.
• Work well as part of a team.
• Measure distances from grade stakes, drive stakes, stretch tight line, and grade stacks from lumber for reuse.
• Level earth to fine grade specifications with shovel to assist in pipe laying, preparing sub grades, and other excavations.
• Direct other laborers in dumping concrete into forms.
• Erect shoring and braces and paint pipe joints with sealing compound.
• Assist in setting pumps and well-points.
• Assist heavy construction equipment operators in aligning and moving equipment such as cranes, power shovels, and backhoes; verify grades and signal operators to adjust machines.
• Direct truck drivers and scraper operators to dumping positions to maintain grades as directed.
• Work in a concrete paving crew, adding to or removing concrete in front of concrete finishing machines so that correct grade will be met.
• Occasionally use small power tools.
• May work as the lead man in a labor crew.
• Exercise independent judgement to plan routine work and expedite it without instructions.
• Perform other related duties as required.

• Some industrial, construction, or general labor experience.
• Post offer drug and alcohol screening and physical evaluation.
• Ability to pass a physical examination and pre‑employment testing if required.
• Experience climbing and maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways; ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights and in confined spaces.
• Ability to carry 50 lbs of tools and/or materials; assistance may be required for items over 50 lbs.
• Capacity to stand or walk for long periods and work extended hours on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel).
• Must be clean shaven and able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment when required.
• Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol abuse policy.
• Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others.
• Experience with client safety requirements (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.) and safety equipment.

• Industrial construction sites and/or fabrication shops.
• Uneven ground, obstructed pathways, low or high elevations, confined work spaces.
• Predominantly outdoor work with exposure to extreme heat or cold, humidity, rain, loud noise, and potential chemical exposure.
