Role Overview

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
This position is responsible for providing maintenance craft skills in a safe, productive, and environmentally responsible manner to achieve plant goals and objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in and support programs, methods, systems and practices for maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Review HESS program requirements, recommend improvements and ensure compliance.
  • Review work requests for safety hazards and take precautions as needed.
  • Attend monthly safety meetings and weekly housekeeping/critical inspections of maintenance shops.
  • Conduct field evaluations of one key procedure each quarter.
  • Perform reliable repairs on plant piping, structures and process equipment, including rotating, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Troubleshoot, inspect, fabricate, modify, remove, repair, overhaul or replace parts or equipment involved directly or indirectly with chemical processes.
  • Operate tools and perform system tests to ensure proper completion of work.
  • Conduct routine adjustments and minor maintenance on equipment.
  • Complete work orders and identify necessary parts, tools, equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Adhere to the area equipment Preventative Maintenance (PM) program and related procedures.
  • Maintain required training, qualifications and craft skills.
  • Assist other maintenance crafts as qualified.
  • Support Cell Renewal maintenance activities, including the use of XRF and SEP equipment.
  • Attend company or vendor training as directed.
  • Train and qualify to operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, manlifts and carry decks.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, meters and material handling equipment for maintenance and repair work.
  • Move, adjust, install or reinstall machinery and equipment using hoists, jacks and hand tools.
  • Repair and lubricate machines and equipment.
  • Perform safety, quality and environmental inspections as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area through regular housekeeping.
  • Cooperate with other employees to solve plant problems and achieve plant goals.
  • Support and fulfill the requirements of the plant’s Food Safe and ISO Quality System.
  • Complete the Routine Maintenance program and any miscellaneous additional responsibilities assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; an Associate’s Degree in Maintenance Technology preferred.
  • Five (5) years of process mechanical maintenance experience in industry, or a Chemical Operator with Senior Tech Field Qualification at the Oxy New Johnsonville site, or two (2) years of maintenance experience in industry with an Associate’s Degree.
  • Must be NCCER Certified in Millwright or Pipe fitting Welding experience is a plus.
  • SAP knowledge is a plus.
  • Plant and process knowledge, craft knowledge to safely plan and perform assigned work.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills to interact with the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Capable of installing, troubleshooting and repairing equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, etc.
  • Proficiency in math, reading comprehension and mechanical reasoning.
Physical Requirements
  • Manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, on uneven surfaces, and at elevations up to 90 feet above ground level.
  • Climb vertical ladders up to 30 feet.
  • Operate hand and power tools, disassemble and assemble equipment, and perform rigging.
  • Use mobile equipment such as forklifts, manlifts and carry decks.
  • Wear personal protective equipment, including a respirator.
  • Respond to visual and audible alarms.
  • Walking, bending, stooping required.
