Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Fabricate sheet metal fittings and ductwork from drawings.
- Install and repair ductwork and fittings in railroad facilities.
- Fabricate pans and fittings from sheet copper; install and repair roofing (shingles, roll roofing, tile, roof cement).
Knowledge of telephone cable color codes; ability to read prints and use test equipment; knowledge of electrical laws; verbal and written communication skills.
RequiredEducation and Experience
- High School Diploma, GED, or TASC, or apprenticeship training as a sheet metal worker.
- Two (2) years of work experience may be substituted for vocational training.
- Valid Class D driver’s license or equivalent; personal toolbox with sheet metal tools.
- Safety‑sensitive position subject to toxicology testing.
The starting rate of 70% is equivalent to $31.67. The wage progression scale is as follows:
Year 1 = 70%, Year 2 = 70%, Year 3 = 75%, Year 4 = 80%, Year 5 = 85%, Year 6 = 85%, Year 7 = 90%, Year 8 = 100%. The full rate of pay is $45.24/hour. This salary is non‑negotiable, based on the SMW Collective Bargaining Agreement. An exception may be granted for a journeyman rate to those who have completed a four‑year bona‑fide apprenticeship program or have four (4) years of full‑time practical experience and can provide proof.
Applicants will establish seniority in the Sheet Metal Workers union in accordance with the current collective bargaining agreement. Members may be subject to an initiation fee and monthly union dues.
Physical Activities- Must be able to lift and carry tools and material weighing up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis and occasionally up to 75 lbs.
- Works outside, exposed to various weather conditions.
- Works at heights up to 50 ft. on scaffolds and ladders.
