Position Summary:
The Port Laborer supports daily port and terminal operations by assisting with cargo handling, site maintenance, and general labor tasks. This role plays a key part in maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-organized work environment. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, and able to perform physical work in a fast-paced outdoor setting while collaborating effectively with team members.
- Perform general cleanup and maintenance of docks, terminal areas, and equipment.
- Assist with loading and unloading vessels, including staging materials and supporting cargo operations.
- Operate or assist with light and heavy equipment under supervision.
- Support maintenance teams with inspection, repair, and upkeep of equipment and terminal infrastructure.
- Assist with line handling, cargo securing, and vessel preparation for docking and departure.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, hazards, or equipment issues to supervisors.
- Maintain organized work areas to support efficient and safe operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support terminal and operational needs.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work safely in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail.
Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience in construction, industrial, port, or marine environments.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or ability to obtain.
- Experience operating forklifts or other material handling equipment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand tools.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
- Ability to work in outdoor conditions, including exposure to heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Required use of PPE (hard hat, safety vest, steel‑toe boots) in operational areas.
- Outdoor port and terminal environment with exposure to weather, water, heavy equipment, and active operations.
- Fast-paced, team-oriented setting with frequent coordination among crews and operators.
- Work may involve heights, confined spaces, and proximity to water and moving equipment.
- Flexible schedule required, including nights, weekends, and holidays based on vessel schedules and operational needs.
