Position SummaryPerform work that involves visual inspection of predefined construction areas and reading and interpretation of utility maps to determine the presence of underground utilities, while using special electronic equipment to detect and locate said utilities. The utilities may include gas & electric within the predefined construction area. This is a physically demanding, field-based position that requires working outdoors for the majority of the workday in all weather conditions, frequently away from office facilities and restroom access.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Lift and carry moderately heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) occasionally; use basic equipment and tools safely; walk and stand continuously for extended periods up to 8 hours per day on uneven terrain; perform manual labor under adverse field conditions.
- Work independently, following verbal and written instructions, and complete daily activities per schedule.
- Communicate orally and in writing; understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
- Meet attendance and punctuality requirements for the fixed schedule (Monday‑Friday, 7:00‑3:30 pm, occasional Saturdays) with reliability.
- Have a personal vehicle any required and be responsible for basic upkeep (cleanliness) of company vehicles.
- Provide written consent for GPS tracking of location via company‑issued cell phone, tablet, laptop, or vehicle.
- Know and understand underground gas and electric utility locating; recognize Code Rules 753 and 811 (Dig Safely).
- Pass a random drug & alcohol test.
- Willingness to provide written consent for GPS tracking (company‑issued devices).
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and clean DMV record.
- Must have Northeast Gas Association (NGA) Operator Qualifications OQ for tasks 21 and 70 at a minimum.
- Be able to pass additional NGA OQ tasks as required.
- Control possible daily stress from workload and client/customer interactions.
- Knowledge and understanding of underground utilities (gas, electric, water, etc.).
- Pass pre‑employment and random drug & alcohol tests as required by DOT regulations.
The position involves working near moving mechanical parts; outdoor conditions include inclement weather, heat, and humidity; requires frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and occasional climbing or balancing. Specific vision requirements include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
