GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Metropolitan Museum of Art houses a vast and priceless collection of art which requires a stable environment for preservation and conservation. Integral to this, is the operation, maintenance and repair of extensive plumbing systems including but not limited to pumping, domestic water, steam, hot water heating, condensate, sanitary, storm, fire sprinkler, kitchen equipment, fountains and pools.

The Plumbing Shop Maintainer is responsible for the performance of general plumbing repair and maintenance for all subject equipment and systems. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES &

Duties

Performs highly responsible independent work under general supervision in the operation, maintenance and repair of all Museum plumbing equipment and systems Makes routine examination of the need for repairs and maintenance Prepare and maintains records on work performed and materials used Thorough and complete knowledge of the Museum's plumbing equipment and its operation Thorough and complete knowledge of the Museum's floor plans and buildings Respond to building emergencies Preventative maintenance and repair Performs related work as required by the Museum including work on special projects and work within all buildings owned or operated by the Museum

with all subject equipment and systems Specialized skill as a plumber and pipe fitter

Experience

in soldering, brazing and PVC piping Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs. Must be able to lift, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling at least 50 pounds; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things Must be able to stand particularly for sustained periods of time (with legal break times) KNOWLEDGE &

rates are set in accordance with established union rates provided by the economic agreement as established and negotiated by DC 37 and the City of New York, Office of Labor Relations.
