Location: Valley Cottage

Interstate Waste Services seeks a Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair a modern fleet of refuse trucks and automotive equipment in our Automotive department. Responsibilities include diagnosing and troubleshooting diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, brakes, and suspensions; performing preventative maintenance and DOT inspections; completing accurate repair documentation; and ensuring all work meets safety and environmental standards. You'll collaborate with drivers and supervisors to minimize downtime and keep routes running safely and on schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical, brake, and suspension systems on refuse trucks and fleet vehicles
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, safety checks, and DOT inspections to minimize breakdowns and ensure compliance
  • Document all repairs, parts used, and labor in maintenance systems accurately and timely
  • Collaborate with drivers and supervisors to identify issues, prioritize repairs, and reduce vehicle downtime
  • Follow all company, OSHA, and environmental safety procedures, keeping work areas clean and hazard-free
  • Support on-call or emergency repairs as needed to keep routes running safely and on schedule
