Refrigeration Technician

Cool Sys, a leader in sustainable HVACR solutions across North America, is seeking a Senior Refrigeration Technician for our Technical & Maintenance team in the Energy & Utilities industry. In this role, you will lead installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of commercial and industrial refrigeration systems. You'll diagnose complex issues, optimize energy efficiency, support junior techs, and ensure safety and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead the service, troubleshooting, and repair of complex commercial and industrial refrigeration and HVACR systems for retail, food service, and industrial clients.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control issues in rack systems, walk-in coolers and freezers, chillers, rooftop units, and related HVACR equipment.
• Perform high-quality installations, start-ups, retrofits, and upgrades to improve system reliability, performance, and energy efficiency.
• Execute scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance to minimize downtime and extend equipment life while complying with manufacturer specifications and company standards.
• Handle refrigerants in accordance with EPA and company guidelines, including leak detection, charging, recovery, and documentation.
• Utilize advanced diagnostic tools, OEM software, and digital platforms to troubleshoot issues and accurately record service activities, parts used, and recommendations.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other technicians to plan and execute technical and maintenance work safely and efficiently.
• Provide clear, professional communication to customers on findings, recommended repairs, and system optimization opportunities, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction.
• Mentor and support junior technicians by sharing technical expertise, best practices, and safety standards in the field.

Required Skills

• Advanced commercial and industrial refrigeration troubleshooting
• HVACR system installation, start-up, and commissioning
• Reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical schematics
• Brazing, soldering, and piping for refrigeration systems
• Use of diagnostic tools (gauges, multimeters, leak detectors)
• PLC and electronic control systems familiarity
