Assistant Media Services Technician (Part‑Time)
Responsibilities
- Assist in the setup of portable and permanently installed audiovisual equipment, including projectors, audio amplification equipment, microphones, sound processing equipment, video display equipment, recording playback equipment, and projection screens.
- Integrate Media Services’ and visitors’ presentation devices (laptops, tablets, smartphones) into existing presentation systems.
- Support faculty with classroom presentation systems, providing telephone support.
- Troubleshoot installed and portable presentation systems, diagnosing defects and developing work‑arounds to prevent class delays.
- Deliver and set up portable presentation systems in venues such as N119, the Atrium Ground Floor Lounge, and classrooms as needed.
- Assist with the construction, deconstruction, updates, and refurbishments of permanently installed presentation systems (including computers and software) in classrooms and other venues.
- Help develop and maintain office computer software and systems.
- Operate, transport, adjust, and help install and configure equipment such as smartboards, laptops, desktop computers, and e‑podiums.
- Implement routine technical updates to hardware and software as directed.
- Perform other office and clerical tasks and errands as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma (or equivalent) and six months of full‑time experience within the last five years in routine maintenance and operation of projectors or other electronic equipment such as public address systems, audio recorders, and cameras.
- Graduation from a recognized vocational or technical high school for radio and television mechanics or related trades.
- High school diploma (or equivalent) and two years of verifiable experience on a high‑school audio‑visual team, or six months of work‑study in an approved Board of Education program involving audio or related electronic equipment.
Other Qualifications
- General understanding of audio‑visual technology; all necessary training will be provided.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and use college elevators to deliver equipment.
- Valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s License in New York State (may be required for certain assignments).
- Ability to work off‑schedule and flexible availability, including Saturdays and evenings.
Compensation
- New Hire: $19.12 per hour.
- Incumbent: $19.98 per hour (subject to a 13% salary suppression for the first 24 months).
