Job Description

The General Utility Worker L1-2 performs mechanical, electrical, and general maintenance work in support of Steam Operations Maintenance at the 59th Street Generating Station. Responsibilities include assisting with the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of steam boilers, turbines, generators, water treatment systems, auxiliary equipment, and facility support systems, as well as supporting the upkeep of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and related station infrastructure to ensure safe and reliable operations.

The position performs preventive and corrective maintenance, asbestos-related work, and emergency response activities while working in an industrial environment. The successful candidate must safely utilize tools and equipment, interpret technical drawings and documentation, and successfully complete required training, licenses, and certifications.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on steam boilers, turbines, generators, water treatment systems, auxiliary equipment, and facility support systems to support safe and reliable station operations.
  • Maintain, repair, install, and replace power piping systems, associated valves, tanks, vessels, and related mechanical components.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair rotating mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, fans, blowers, and associated equipment.
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair utility electrical equipment, electrical components, circuits, and related systems.
  • Read and interpret schematic drawings, engineering prints, blueprints, sketches, and other technical documentation to perform maintenance and repair activities.
  • Utilize hand tools, field power tools, precision measuring instruments, diagnostic equipment, and electrical test equipment to perform maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, and repair work.
