Duties Description The incumbents will be responsible for individual and group training in the proper operation and maintenance of a wide variety of equipment, as well as training in pesticide applications. Snow and ice training topics include one-person plowing as well as specialized snow and ice equipment. Duties include preparing training, conducting training, assessments, evaluations, and completing necessary documentation on internal computer programs.
The incumbents will report directly to the Supervising Equipment Operator Instructor and will be required to travel within the region to conduct training programs.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
* To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:
Four years experience in the operation and maintenance of at least THREE of the following types of self-propelled heavy construction equipment: excavators, graders, pavement wideners, bulldozers, heavy dump trucks with a plow and wing configuration, pavers, front end loaders, and backhoes AND six months experience as a designated instructor in the operation and maintenance of complex heavy construction equipment or trucks over thirteen tons in weight.
A designated instructor is someone who has provided classroom, shop, over-the-road or work site training on complex heavy equipment.
At the time of appointment and continuously thereafter, you must have a valid New York State Class A Commercial Driver’s License without any of the following restrictions: no air brake, automatic transmission, or no tractor/trailer CMV. A valid New York State Class B Commercial Driver’s License without an air brake restriction, or its equivalent from another state or territory, will be required at the time of the performance test.
At the time of interview, you may be required to have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate your ability to meet the transportation needs of the job.
Note:
Cannabis use is not permitted for employees in this title and assignment.
Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
