Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Transport Technician /
Telecom Field Engineer / Network Field Technician to support telecommunications network infrastructure across Long Island.
This is a field-based role focused on the installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and restoration of telecom transport, fiber, and critical infrastructure equipment.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a carrier, fiber, cable, or telecommunications environment and be comfortable traveling between network sites, troubleshooting service issues, working with test equipment, and supporting both legacy and modern network technologies.
Key Responsibilities- Travel between telecom and network sites throughout the assigned Long Island territory.
- Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair telecommunications and network equipment.
- Support transport technologies including legacy TDM, SONET, Ethernet, IP, optical wavelength, and DWDM environments.
- Assist with provisioning, turn-up, testing, and restoration of network services.
- Troubleshoot service-impacting issues and isolate faults across transport, fiber, and network infrastructure.
- Replace defective cards, modules, optics, and other field equipment.
- Performfiber testing and inspection using tools such as:
- OTDRs
- Optical power meters
- Fiber inspection scopes
- EXFO
- Viavi / JDSU equipment
- Support network outages, route monitoring, and service restoration activity.
- Perform basic maintenance around telecommunications critical infrastructure, including DC power and related site systems.
- Maintain field inventory, spare equipment, tools, test equipment, and truck stock.
- Document field activity, equipment changes, testing results, and service work.
- Previous field-based experience in telecommunications, networking, fiber, or carrier infrastructure.
- Experience supporting an ILEC, CLEC, MSO, fiber provider, telecom carrier, or similar environment.
- Hands-on experience with one or more of the following:
- Fiber optic networks
- Ethernet
- IP networking
- SONET
- TDM
- DS1 / T1
- DS3 / T3
- Optical transport
- DWDM
- Wavelength services
- Experience troubleshooting live network or telecom equipment in the field.
- Familiarity with fiber test equipment and network diagnostic tools.
- Exposure to telecom power, central office, outside plant, or critical infrastructure environments is beneficial.
