Location: New York

The Youth Advocate is responsible for providing information and services to meet the needs of youth, their parents, family members, and guardians. The role promotes social interaction and development of social skills. The Advocate collaborates with schools, educators, social workers, doctors, community organizations, and local political leadership to advocate for children’s rights. Responsibilities include intake, assessment, mediation, case management, and assistance to youth requesting services.

The Advocate interacts with youth during outings and after‑school programs, serves as a role model, conducts assessments, writes daily progress notes, transports clients, facilitates group activities, schedules activities and outings, recruits youth for DDSO Program, maintains accurate files, advocates child rights, and provides 24‑hour service via hotline. The position incorporates a Trauma‑Informed Care approach and follows federal and state regulations.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma and minimum of two (2) years relevant experience.
  • Knowledge and experience working with families and children with low income and diverse cultures.
  • Understanding of the needs and emotional needs of at‑risk youth and families.
  • Knowledge of Family Court and Department of Social Service Regulations beneficial.
  • Basic knowledge of community resources in counties served.
  • Effective communication with youth/families and outside agencies.
  • Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality and privacy.
  • Adherence to agency personnel policies and procedures.
  • Attends trainings and meetings as required.
  • Basic computer literacy in email, word processing and internet navigation.
  • Ability to move throughout the community and participate in outside events/sports activities.
  • Background check, fingerprint screen, physical exam and TB required.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License.
