Opportunity

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Family Court Practice Institute (Practice Institute) is a public-private partnership among the New York State Unified Court System and the Center for Justice Innovation. The Practice Institute will elevate and promote high quality legal representation in the New York State Family Court through training and support of attorneys who represent children, parents, presentment agencies, and the related professions that comprise multidisciplinary holistic representation teams.

The Family Court Practice Institute team is seeking a Youth Training and Engagement Specialist
. Reporting to the Deputy Director of the Practice Institute, the Youth Training and Engagement Specialist will primarily work collaboratively to incorporate a trauma-informed lens to Practice Institute curricula and ensure perspectives and insights from youth and other individuals with lived experience are included. In addition, the Youth Training and Engaging Specialist will convene the youth advisory board to inform curriculum development;

conduct research; collaborate with external partners; support presentations; coordinate resources and collaboration with external partners; support presentations on the Family Court Practice Institute model; and provide administrative support as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Convene and facilitate the youth advisory board to inform the direction of the Practice Institute training and support;
  • Work with the Practice Institute team to ensure that the voice of youth and resources to enhance representation of youth are incorporated into the website and resource materials;
  • Collaborate with the curricula development team to incorporate youth voice and a trauma-informed lens to Practice Institute curricula;
  • Facilitate peer-to-peer communication and collaboration;
  • Respond to inquiries, coordinate site visits and travel;
  • Provide administrative support for travel and invoicing;
  • Assist the Senior Program Manager with development of practitioner monographs, fact sheets, toolkits, guidance documents, website features, and other written products, as well as online content for Practice Institute website;
  • Assist in writing reports, publications, and other written products;
  • Present at conferences and training events, as needed; and
  • Additional relevant tasks, as needed.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and preferably 1-2 years of experience working in family court and related systems with preference given to someone with experience in developing training, organizing youth, and trauma-informed care. Candidate must be a skilled communicator, highly organized and detail-oriented, and able to work in a multi-disciplinary setting and maintain strong relationships with a diverse array of partners in a culturally-responsive manner, including community members, those with lived experience, judges, attorneys, court administrators, social service providers, school officials, and community-based organizations.

The Youth Training and Engagement Specialist will be collaborating with a dynamic team and will provide insight and representation of youth voice and add to the team’s internal culture with energy, flexibility, and a collaborative spirit. Lived experience is highly preferred.
