Overview
The Bureau of Child Care ensures that child care services in New York City operate in compliance with the New York City Health Code and New York State Social Service regulations and are licensed or permitted as required by law. The Bureau routinely monitors child care programs to protect the health and safety of children while in the child care environment and actively works to improve and expand access to high quality programs which support early childhood development and learning.
The Bureau seeks to hire an Assistant Director of the Central Clearance Unit to ensure compliance with legislative mandates to conduct comprehensive background checks for child care staff.
- Develop, implement and ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and protocols for comprehensive background checks;
- Assign, supervise and evaluate the work of the Central Clearance Units supervisors;
- Evaluate program performance, provide and hoc project management and reporting, and inform agency decision-making;
- Review databases and case files for timely, accurate and complete entries;
- Direct the training and development of new staff and reinforcement training for current staff in protocols, procedures and regulations;
- Interpret Health Code and other regulations for child care operators and the public, and liaise with other bureau units, governmental agencies and stakeholders;
- Ensure adherence to protocols and mandates surrounding use, storage, and release of confidential or privileged information.
- Extensive working knowledge of city, state and federal child care regulations, and the operational landscape of the NYC child care delivery system;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to think outside the box to analyze and modify organizational structures with an eye toward improvement, accountability and control;
- Ability to distill complex material and data into actionable recommendations;
- Proven record of working effectively with a diverse work force, program operators, and various stakeholders.

Salary: $69,880.00 – $96,000.00
