The OpportunityThe Red Hook Community Resilience Corps is an Ameri Corps National Service Program that seeks to make Red Hook a safer, stronger and a more resilient community for individuals ages 18+. Ameri Corps members are part of our unconventional programs and services throughout the Center that engage residents and promote public safety. Members work directly with community members to provide services and referrals to address needs centered on economic mobility, housing issues and many other areas.
Furthermore, members also will perform service projects throughout the neighborhood and by the end of their service year, members will gain the skills needed to plan and execute their own project.
Brooklyn Justice Initiatives (BJI), is a program that seeks to transform how people navigate the legal process of criminal court in Brooklyn, NY, and provides meaningful early diversion, supervised release for people awaiting trial, and alternative sentencing options. Operating out of Kings County Criminal Court, Brooklyn Justice Initiatives is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice for justice‑involved individuals.
Our team offers pre‑arraignment diversion, post‑conviction sentencing options. By providing proper alternatives for individuals coming in contact with the criminal justice system in Kings County, we look to help aid in non‑criminal dispositions.
Brooklyn Justice Initiatives is seeking a Resource Coordinator Assistant to report to the Ameri Corps Coordinator. The Resource Coordinator Assistant will support ATI by providing appropriate orientation for clients receiving services, including pretrial and jail‑alternative services. Their tasks will align with proper compliance notification to current court stakeholders and active participants.
AvailabilityThe start date for this position is March 9, 2026, and the end date is July 31, 2026. Applicants must be available to commit to serve 15 to 20 hours a week, 2-3 days per week (Monday-Friday), from 9:00am - 5:00pm, with occasional evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities Stakeholder & Participant Engagement- Communicate with judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and other court staff about eligibility for specific diversion programming;
- Serve as a liaison in the arraignment, all‑purpose, treatment, and trial court parts to determine eligibility for all operating programs between Kings County Criminal and Supreme Criminal Court;
- Work closely with defense attorneys and Assistant District attorneys to identify individuals who may avoid court or jail time by engaging in diversion programming;
- Execute crisis intervention protocols to ensure participant safety and connection to appropriate services;
- Establish and maintain relationships with local social service providers present in the courthouse;
- Collaborate with a broad range of criminal justice, city government, and community partners; and
- Assist as a floater with tasks such as conducting outreach and intake, scheduling/rescheduling services, reminder phone calls, and track attendance for program participants.
