Hours Per Week: 20/Part-time

Our programs are staffed by experts who help over 325,000 clients each year and advocate on behalf of all needy New Yorkers. Our services include 100% affordable housing at 21 locations, family violence program, Holocaust survivor assistance, geriatric social work, crisis intervention and the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world.

Our network of 101 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.

Position Summary

The Career Specialist at the Brooklyn Hub supports clients from diverse backgrounds impacted by poverty in accessing workforce training opportunities and achieving their employment goals. This role involves guiding clients through the intake and enrollment process, explaining available programs, and maintaining accurate documentation. The Career Specialist also provides ongoing support throughout training, monitors participation, and assists clients in planning next steps upon program completion.

Please note: This is a temporary position anticipated to extend through mid-April 2026.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Answer client calls and conduct intake to determine training history, employment goals, and financial considerations.
  • Explain available trainings and walk clients through the enrollment process.
  • Register and enroll clients into courses; ensure records are accurate and complete.
  • Stay up-to-date on local workforce, training, and community resources in order to be able to provide referrals aligned to clients’ needs.
  • Serve as a point of contact between students and course instructors to support ongoing engagement.
  • Monitor attendance and follow up with students who disengage or stop attending.
  • Meet with students upon course completion to discuss next steps.
  • Provide back-up support for classroom setup and basic IT troubleshooting.
  • Staff the community resource room as needed and provide basic computer assistance to clients (e.g., completing online forms or bill payments).
  • Document all client interactions, enrollment activities, and outcomes in Salesforce accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Attend supervision, team meetings, and professional development trainings.
  • Additional responsibilities as required.
Competencies
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication, with the ability to explain processes effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Able to track client engagement and follow up in an organized and timely manner.
  • Able to assess client needs and identify appropriate next steps.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and respect when working with clients from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.
  • Works effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Shows empathy, professionalism, and sound judgment when supporting vulnerable populations.
Skill and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field (preferred).
  • Experience in client services, case management, workforce development, or related work (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (required), experience with Salesforce (preferred).
  • Fluency in Yiddish or Hebrew (preferred).
Work Environment
  • Based at the Brooklyn Hub, with occasional meetings/trainings at the Manhattan main office.
  • May require participation in community events within Brooklyn.
  • Must be comfortable working in a busy environment serving a sensitive population.
Compensation

$25 - $30 per hour.
