MCNY enrolls approximately 1,000 students annually into its accelerated degree programs with convenient onsite and remote schedules for added flexibility.

Position Summary

Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY) seeks a compassionate and dependable Peer Mentor to support fathers participating in the DYCD Fatherhood Initiative. The Peer Mentor plays a critical role in engaging participants, fostering community, and promoting positive fatherhood, personal development, and self‑sufficiency. Drawing on lived experience and peer leadership, this position supports fathers across multiple service tiers through encouragement, guidance, and connection to resources.

This is a grant‑funded, part‑time position and is contingent upon program needs and continued funding.

Key Responsibilities Participant Engagement and Support
  • Build trusting, supportive relationships with program participants across service tiers.
  • Provide peer‑based support through one‑on‑one interactions and group activities.
  • Encourage consistent participation in workshops, support groups, and community events.
  • Model positive fatherhood, co‑parenting, and help‑seeking behaviors.
Community Building and Cross‑Tier Support
  • Support cross‑tier programming and community‑building activities.
  • Assist in facilitating group discussions and workshops alongside program staff.
  • Encourage peer leadership and mutual support among participants.
Systems Navigation and Referrals
  • Share practical, experience‑based guidance related to workforce reentry, child support, family court, or supervised visitation, as appropriate.
  • Support referrals to internal MCNY services and external partner organizations.
  • Reinforce strength‑based and trauma‑informed approaches in all interactions.
Professional Practice
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Participate in required training (12–15 hours annually), team meetings, and reflective supervision.
  • Complete basic documentation and communicate regularly with program staff.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Lived experience as a father navigating systems such as reentry, child support, family court, or workforce reentry strongly preferred.
  • Ability to build rapport with diverse communities and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development and supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in peer mentoring, community outreach, or human services.
  • Familiarity with trauma‑informed, culturally responsive, or strength‑based approaches.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) a plus.
