The Rehabilitation Department is seeking a part‑time Social Worker/LMSW (21 hours/week, in‑person, flexible days Monday‑Friday).
Bilingual Spanish/English fluency is required.
The role provides a full range of social work services for individuals who are blind and visually impaired including case management, concrete services, and coordination with internal and community‑based service providers. The Social Worker also provides short‑term individual and group psychotherapy focusing on adjustment to vision loss.
Duties / Responsibilities- Assesses the needs of assigned clients and develops a plan to assist in meeting these needs.
- Makes referrals for adjunct services, completes applications for entitlements, and assists with accessing community resources.
- Outreaches to social service agencies, housing agencies, and other support services that may be needed by clients.
- Responds to client phone inquiries and provides information and referral.
- Facilitates meetings with NYS Commission for the Blind (NYSCB) vocational rehabilitation counselor and client after assessment and at the conclusion of services.
- Writes assessment and progress reports following NYSCB guidelines and submits them to supervisor for review.
- Provides intensive individual brief psychotherapy and group work with a primary focus on adjustment to vision loss in accordance with NYSCB guidelines.
- Refers to Lighthouse Guild behavioral health or other community‑based provider for long‑term services if indicated.
- Meets with supervisor as scheduled for case reviews.
- Manages a caseload consisting of parents of young children with vision loss, teenagers, and adults.
- Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Works with clients who require consistent and comprehensive support.
- Remains in a stationary position at a workstation and uses a computer approximately 90% of the time.
- Master’s Degree in Social Work – licensed (LMSW).
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.
