Recreation Specialist

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree or 60 college credits in Human Services field, or High School Diploma or GED with 1 year of relevant shelter experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in verbal and written communication, including basic computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally (oral and written) with Spanish‑speaking clients.
Recreation Specialist Principal Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, publicize, implement and facilitate support groups, recreational activities, special events and holiday programs. Update and post printed materials and encourage client participation.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new programs aimed at enhancing client motivation through socialization and the development of leisure time skills.
  • Coordinate programs with case managers to facilitate success of In‑Reach sessions.
  • Develop contacts with various sources for off‑site activities.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting written and statistical reports.
  • Provide aftercare to assigned clients who have been placed or discharged from the facility.
