Location: New York
Program Overview Project Restore Brownsville is a community-based violence intervention and prevention initiative designed to support young people at elevated risk of involvement in gun violence. The program combines intensive case management, mentoring, trauma informed group work, and workforce development opportunities to stabilize participants, reduce violent behavior, and support long-term positive outcomes. Project Restore operates as an enhancement of existing BIVO work, strengthening continuity of care, supervision, and participant engagement across systems.
What The Outreach Worker II Does:
The person filling this position is expected, under close supervision, to conduct community-based violence interruption and outreach while also serving as a Credible Mentor for a small caseload of Project Restore Brownsville participants. This role builds on existing outreach relationships to provide deeper mentorship, engagement, and stabilization support that enhances both Cure Violence and Project Restore outcomes.
Practice Universal Precautions/Standard Protocol & Procedures.
Comply with all Federal, State, City, and CAMBA security and privacy policies to protect the confidentiality of individual health information.
Ensure the safety and security of all participants by following program protocols and procedures, including supervision, accident and incident reporting.
Conduct street outreach and engagement with individuals at elevated risk of involvement in gun violence.
Identify and mediate potentially violent conflicts using Cure Violence interruption strategies.
Build and maintain trusting relationships with high-risk individuals in the community.
Maintain regular contact with assigned Project Restore participants through structured and informal mentorship.
Support participants with crisis intervention, including hospital visits, court accompaniment, and emergency stabilization.
Encourage consistent participation in Project Restore programming, including case management, group sessions, and internships.
Serve as a positive role model and provide guidance related to decision-making, accountability, and long term goals.
Document participant contacts, outreach interactions, and mentorship activities in required systems.
Collaborate with Case Managers, Social Workers, and Program leadership to ensure coordinated support for participants.
Assist with participant re-engagement when attendance declines.
Support safety planning and violence prevention strategies for participants and their networks.
Participate in team meetings, supervision, and case conferences.
Assist with community events, peace-building activities, and outreach initiatives.
Maintain boundaries while providing consistent, supportive presence in participants’ lives.
Track progress and report participant milestones, challenges, and safety concerns to supervisors.
Tasks may be modified, expanded, and/or assigned over time to meet program needs.
Minimum
Education Required:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Minimum Experience and
Skills Required:
Minimum of 2 years of experience working in CAMBA’s BIVO Cure Violence program
Strong credibility within the community and ability to engage high-risk youth and young adults.
Experience working with justice-involved or system-impacted individuals preferred.
Strong interpersonal, conflict mediation, and communication skills.
Ability to document work accurately and consistently.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, or a related field preferred.
