Join Our Team as a CANS Assessor – IDD Services in New York!

1st Choice is hiring CANS Assessors to support a statewide initiative aimed at evaluating and enhancing services for youth ages 21 and under with IDD. In this role, you will conduct in person assessments using the Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths CANS tool in home and community based settings.

TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENT
- Travel between assessment locations will be reimbursed. This includes mileage for personal vehicle use
Conduct in-person CANS assessments in homes and community settings.
Travel throughout the NYC region to meet with youth, families, and caregivers.
Use a person-centered approach to evaluate strengths, needs, and developmental concerns.
Gather information from caregivers, service providers, and relevant records to complete the assessment.
Accurately document findings in state-mandated systems while meeting compliance standards.
Coordinate language access services as needed.
Maintain productivity and quality standards defined by the program.
What You NeedMust have own car for daily travel between assessment locations
Public transportation and ride sharing are not permitted
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a human services field (required)
Experience:
Minimum 1 year working directly with children and/or adolescents with IDD (required)
Experience with assessments or the CANS tool (preferred)
Skills:
Strong communication, decision-making, and documentation skills
Ability to work independently and travel within the region
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, email, and web-based platforms
Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
Other Requirements:
- Valid NYS Driver’s License
- Willingness to travel for in-person visits
